The Bible teaches that salvation is a free gift, available to us because of Jesus Christ's sacrifice on the cross.
No work or effort of our own could ever earn salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9). After accepting the free gift of salvation, baptism is the public announcement of that internal decision. Baptism doesn’t save us, it identifies us with Christ’s death and gives people a visible profession of our inward faith.
