Wrong Assumption ~ John 7:25-36

In John chapter 7, we find ourselves standing in the middle of one of the most spiritually charged moments in all of Scripture. The crowds surrounding Jesus are buzzing with confusion, debate, and assumption. They think they have him figured out. They know his hometown, his family, his background. And yet, with all of that knowledge, they miss the most important truth standing right in front of them. This message draws us into that tension and asks us a piercing question: are we doing the same thing? We live in a world that is constantly filling in the blanks with logical assumptions, and sometimes those assumptions keep us from fully encountering the truth of who Jesus is. The spiritual lesson here is both sobering and liberating. Our belief always drives our behavior. When we build our understanding of life on cultural myths, secondhand information, or our own reasoning instead of the truth of God's word, we will always arrive at the wrong conclusion. The people in this passage were confident, but confidence without truth is just noise. What we are invited into is a faith that moves beyond assumption and into genuine surrender, one that does not rely on what we have heard from others but on what God himself has declared.
