The Word that comes Before Revival ~ Hosea 14:1-4
What if the word we have been waiting on God to speak is actually a word He has been waiting on us to speak first? In this message drawn from Hosea 14, we are confronted with a truth that is both humbling and hopeful: revival does not begin with a nation, a church calendar, or a scheduled meeting. It begins with a single word directed at each of us personally, and that word is return. The book of Hosea frames this call through one of the most striking love stories in all of Scripture. The prophet Hosea pursues his unfaithful wife Gomer through betrayal, slavery, and shame, ultimately buying her back at great personal cost. That story is not just ancient history. It is a mirror held up to our own spiritual lives. We are Gomer. We are the ones who have drifted, leaned on substitutes, and hidden things in the closets of our hearts. And yet God, like Hosea, keeps pursuing. Hosea 14 gives us a picture of what a revived life actually looks like, one that is rooted deeply, growing steadily, and restored fully. But the pathway into that picture begins with honest words brought before God, confession that holds nothing back and asks for grace rather than merit. The message challenges us to stop pointing at the culture, the nation, or the circumstances around us and instead ask the most personal question of all: where have I drifted? That question, taken seriously, is the first step toward the spiritual awakening we say we want.
