The Gospel of John: When Jesus Steps Into a Problem

Got your Bibles. John chapter two is where we're going to be this morning. John chapter two. I believe this is the sixth message out of the Book of John thus far. We covered all of chapter one.

And then we had a wonderful two weeks leading. The last two weeks we had Passover, I mean, the triumphal entry of Jesus. Then we had Easter Sunday, Resurrection Sunday. And now we find ourselves back in John chapter number two. And so we're gonna be doing a three part series.

The first chapter, it took us five or six sermons. We're saying that the second chapter is only gonna take us three. Okay, so have a little bit of faith this morning. But we're excited to jump into John chapter two. We've talked about this.

The title of this series is When Jesus Steps In. And we're gonna see, because John chapter two shows us Jesus stepping into a problem. That's what we're studying today. We see next week we're going to be studying Jesus stepping into a place. And then at the end of chapter number two, we're going to see that Jesus steps into a life or a person.

And so over the next three weeks, we're going to just be walking through John chapter 2, verse by verse, next chapter, next verse. And we're excited to see what God has for us in the Book of John. So when Jesus steps into, in when Jesus steps into a problem, that's what we're going to study today. So John chapter one, let's look at verses one through 11. And so I need you to do something for me, okay?

I need you to really focus in on God's Word today, all right? I want you to focus in. If you don't have a copy of God's Word, download an app, find something to where you can look at it, see it, and be a part of reading the scripture. Because I believe that this can be life changing. And I believe that God is going to work through his Word and show himself all powerful through it.

And so when we look at this John chapter 2, verse number 1 through verse number 11, we're going to jump into that and dissect it and unpack it. But before we do that, I want to show you John chapter 20, verse number 30. Okay? Hold your place in John chapter two. All right?

And then I want you to look at the screen this morning and see these verses. Let's go and grab one. Why we're studying this today and why it's important. Okay? Let's grab some context this morning.

And that way we can understand it says in John, chapter 20 and verse number. Leave verse number 30 up there. But verse number 31 is going to tell us the purpose statement for the entire book of John. But if you go one, one verse back, we see that the Bible says in many other signs, all right? Many other signs, all right?

This is a miracle. A sign is a miracle. This is a supernatural. This is something that only Jesus can do. So a sign or a miracle.

We have to understand the Bible why Jesus did these signs and these miracles. Okay? It's going to tell us in verse number 31 that we may believe. But we have to understand a sign or a miracle is not just for us to see that Jesus was a good magician, that he could do a lot of wonderful things with his hands. He could heal when he wanted to, he could snap his fingers and this could happen.

We see that it's bigger than that. He didn't just do miracles in signs so that many people would show up. There is a deeper meaning to each miracle that Jesus does. There's a faith meaning, there is a deeper meaning. And so we're going to study that today.

I do not have the time today, all right, to go into depth within this miracle in the faith meaning and just look into it, show you the prophecy of why Jesus did it, when he did it. But I'm going to tell you how you can study further. And we're going to look at it kind of from a 30,000 foot view this morning. Can I show you John chapter 20, verse number 31? Look at it with me on the screen today.

Understand the purpose statement of the Book of John. This is why it's written. But these are written, meaning the Gospel of John that ye might. What's the next word? Church?

Believe. That ye might believe. We're studying the first miracle, the first sign of Jesus that you may not just see that he's a really good person, but that you might believe that Jesus Christ, Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life through his name. So let's back up. So we looked at verse number 30.

There are many signs that there are many things that Jesus did. There's so much that there is not a book that can contain all the miracles and the signs that Jesus did. However, in the Book of John, we're gonna see that there are seven signs, seven different signs in the Book of John that he is gonna show us. And we're gonna be able to learn some valuable things about Jesus through these and apply them into our life. And so he lists the Seven things he goes through.

The raising of Lazarus. The healing of a blind man walking on the water. Wasn't that a good miracle, walking on the water? I can't wait to study that one. The feeding of the 5000.

Healing the Paralytic man. Healing the nobleman's son. And then we get to John chapter two, right here. The first miracle in John chapter two, that is turning water into wine. So this happens in just the first week of Jesus public ministry.

And if you can rewind back and we see in the middle of the Book of John, after we finish the prologue, verse number 19 says, in these days. Okay, so it's going to give us a play by play or a walkthrough the first week of Jesus's ministry. Isn't that cool that we can understand where Jesus is in the play by play? You understand that at the beginning of this week, that is when he is walking down the Sea of Galilee and he calls his disciples. You remember what he said?

He said one of the greatest leadership statements in all the Bible. He says, follow me. Follow me. He's putting a calling on their life. He's saying, I understand you're fishermen, you're pros, you're really good at your job, you have a career.

But I have something bigger for you in your life than just your career or just how many fish you can catch or how much money that you can make. But you follow me, and I will make ye fishers of. So we see the calling of the disciples. We understand it's not 12, it's just five. And I'm going to test your knowledge.

Okay? We're in church, and I don't want to be the only one up here talking. All right? And you guys ain't saying amen yet. Okay, who are the five disciples that Jesus already called?

I'll give you one. John. We're studying. Okay. John, who is his brother.

Oh, boy. All right. Okay, that was really slow, but okay. So the five disciples that he called John. Okay, Peter, Andrew, Philip, and Nathaniel.

Okay, I said that really fast. All right? I'll save you some embarrassment if you said Nicodemus. Okay? It's not it.

Okay. But we see that he's called these five disciples. He's given a play by play of where we're going. We see within the first week of Jesus public ministry. We find him landed at a wedding.

Okay, so we're gonna pick up the text there. And I'm here to tell you this morning that this is far deeper than what we can study in just the next 20 to 30 minutes here. Some of you are like, 15. Come on. 15, Pastor.

But it is far deeper. So let me give you an overview just so I can whet your appetite today and you can go and study it for yourself, because that is really what Sunday is all about, okay? I don't have all the information. You better check what I'm saying, and you better study in depth for yourself. So we see in the Old Testament, wine meant joy.

You can go and read in Psalms 104, and you can understand that wine meant joy, all right? So write that down. Understand that we're gonna look prophetically to why Jesus turned these six pots into wine, okay? It is all prophetic. And so if you look at the New Testament, we see that this blood sacrifice through Jesus Christ and what he did on the cross, that now wine equals the blood of Christ.

You remember what we just did last Friday when we took the Lord's Supper? The body, okay? The symbol of his body was the bread. And his bread, the bread was broken, okay? And then when we get to the wine or the grape juice, we understand that that is through the blood that was sprinkled on the mercy seat for each and every one of us.

And so we remember that sacrifice through the blood of Jesus, so that wine equals the blood of Christ. Understand that? So the stone pots that we're gonna study, the pots that he turned that were full of water, he turned it into wine. We see that he is going to speak to the ceremonial law that Jesus came to change that. The law that we find that Moses wrote, that they went for the ceremonial cleansing, that each time they came and before they touched anything or did anything, they had to get their arms and their hands clean.

All right? That is a ceremonial law. And Jesus is now stepping in, and he's going to say, I'm the new Covenant. I'm the new promise. It is through my blood and that sacrificial love that I have for you.

I. I'm gonna put that on the cross. And then three days later, I'm gonna rise again, okay? That is what we would say is the gospel. Jesus changed everything, okay? And so he's gonna show us that through his first sign today.

And I'm just telling you, it's a lot deeper. So study it this week. It is really, really good. And so when we jump into it, let me ask you today, where are you at in your life? What do you need today?

You say, pastor, that's a. That's. That's a really good question. I need a briefcase of Money, all right, Small bills, big briefcase, maybe a million dollars or so. That would be wonderful, right, Pastor?

I just need to get through this week. It's a really tough week at work. I got some things going on in my life. Maybe you say, hey, I have this relationship that I'm in. Maybe it's a marriage, maybe it's a broken relationship.

God, I just need some help in that area of my life. Let me ask you, what is the blank? What are you filling in the blank? What. What do you need today from Jesus?

What kind of healing do you need in your life? I don't know everybody's story. I don't have time today. We don't have time today to go around and ask where you are. But can I tell you today, if you need a miracle, you came to the right place.

Jesus is a miracle working God. It is not just a recreation, but Jesus is a transforming God who can do great and mighty works. He's all powerful, he's all sovereign. He's a provider God that in the midst of our troubles, he can turn water into wine. I don't know the miracle that you need in your life, but I know a Jesus.

I know a God who cares deeply for you, that knows exactly where you are hurting today. He knows all the wounds that you have. And if you need a miracle today, you came to the right place because we're going to tell you about a Jesus who performed one of the greatest miracles that we could ever study in the Bible. And so when we look at this today, we see in this story, verses one and two. I'm going to give you a three point, okay?

Every Baptist church, every pastor has three points. Okay? We got to have three points. But we see the first point today is the marriage. Will you look at me?

With verses one and two, we're going to see that this marriage, this was one of the most exciting days of this couple's life. This is a ceremony that sometimes you. They will look forward to for a whole entire year. We find that it is at this moment, at this ceremony, the most exciting, social, great thing that they will ever experience. We are here in this couple's life.

John, chapter two and verse number one. And the third day, there was a marriage in the Cana. In Cana of Galilee. And the mother of Jesus was there. Okay?

So we see that. A good point for us to make is that many. Mary was invited and Jesus was invited. Okay? It's great to invite Jesus.

Amen. Let me ask you, is Jesus invited into your life, into your social Media into your marriage, all right? Into your career. Have you invited Jesus? Okay, that's just a preaching point.

Not even in my notes, okay? But we see that in this story. We see that Jesus is in the first week of his ministry. Jesus grew up in a small town by the name of Nazareth, okay? And so we see that that's a pretty small town, 800 to 1,000 people.

Did anybody like me grow up in a small town? Anybody like that? I grew up in the big town now, the town of Mebane, okay? So you Alamance county people, Orange county people, you know what I'm talking about? Mebane, that's where all the tourists and people coming through.

That's how they pronounce it. I grew up in Mebben. It was before they had the outlets. It was before there was a tractor supply and a Starbucks and a Chick Fil A. Okay, where was the Chick Fil A when I was growing up?

Okay, where was it? But I grew up in Mebin, just a small town, one stoplight town. We could ride our bikes everywhere. We had an amazing childhood. We actually grew up across the street from a graveyard.

And so that was like our own backyard. And so skateboards, bikes, everything, man, we could ride it through, go to the park. Never had a care in the world. It was awesome. Okay, Me think about that with me.

Jesus grew up in a small town, okay? Nazareth, 800 to 1,000 people, pretty small. So now they travel. Go with me geographically, they go up, up north, okay? It's never good to go up north.

Amen. That's another preaching point, Okay? I had to say that. I should have said in the first service because Kristin's two sisters were here and they're both up north, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Okay?

But we understand that going up north, they traveled nine miles, okay. Into a little town called Cana of Galilee. You following me? Cana of Galilee is so small, it's microscopic even compared to Nazareth. We understand that the Cana of galilee probably had 100 people in this town.

Very small, okay? And so I think it's fascinating that in the first week of Jesus public ministry, Jesus to induce some great miracle in Jerusalem. The biggest town had thousands and thousands and thousands of people. But we see that Jesus, we find him attending a wedding after he called his disciples. We see invited to this wedding.

And Jesus is going to do this miracle at a wedding just amongst really friends and family. We understand that they got the invitation. They were probably. It could be one of their family members. It would have been a close friend.

So a very Very, very small setting. That's where Jesus does his first miracle. Are you with me so far this morning? So we see Jesus was invited celebration. This marriage celebration would usually last about a week.

It would start on Wednesdays. That was the traditional thing. Never knew when it was exactly gonna start, but it would start. And this groom would go away sometimes for a year, and he would prepare, maybe even build onto his family's house or go build a house and prepare for this sacrifice ceremony. And so, ladies, there wasn't a week that you could kind of get ready for this, okay?

It wasn't like spa day, all right, Leading up to it. And get your hair. No. How they would enter, how the bride would know that the groom was coming would be through a trumpet sound, okay? It would make this grand announcement that, hey, the groom is coming to get his bride.

Does that sound familiar in any other sense? How is Jesus coming back one day? How is the marriage, supper of the lamb all tie into this? Isn't that good this morning? And so we see that this announcement, it would be a week long ceremony, all right?

A lot of great things would happen in the ceremony. The groom would come, and it was up to the groom and his family. Maybe you would be like me and agree that we should go back to this, that the groom and his family would provide all of everything, all the expenses, all the food, all the wine, all the drinks. Don't you guys think the groom's parents should pay for it all? I got three girls.

That's why I'm saying that, okay? I need help, y'. All. So. But the ceremony was very important.

It was the social event of the year for this couple. It was an amazing time. They look forward to it. So you better believe that this groom better have his act together, right? And so we see.

Now Mary is mentioned in this. So we see the marriage verses. 1, 2. An amazing celebration of exciting time. But now look, with me, not just the marriage, but the mishap.

We see in verse number three, it says, and when they wanted wine, think with me. Nine miles on foot, that's a pretty long ways, right? They're probably a little bit thirsty. All right? They're dirty.

They're thirsty. Okay, we see they wanted wine. The mother of Jesus saith unto them. What does she say? They have no wine.

Wouldn't you say church, that's a problem? I would say it's even bigger than a problem. This is catastrophic that this groom so much so is catastrophic that this groom could have been held liable for this, him and his family. Actually could have got a lawsuit put against them because they made this mishap. Because you got to understand that this was such a huge social event.

This was a picture or a test of how this groom was going to take care of this bride for. For the rest of their life. So you can imagine this isn't a week into the wedding. This isn't the last day to where they ran out of the wine. This was on the first day that they had ran out of this.

And this was a test. This was a picture of how this groom was gonna spend the rest of his life. And could you imagine the heartbreak, the crisis, the mishap of not having enough wine? So we see that Jesus response in verse number four. Woman.

All right, everybody, say that with me. Don't say it with that tone. Come on, y', all, be respectful. What have I to do with thee? Mine hour is not yet come, man.

Again, don't try that at home, okay? I tried it this week with my wife. It didn't work out so well. No, I'm just joking. I did.

But the meaning. Jesus is respectfully signaling a change in their relationship. This would be like him almost saying like ma' am or. It's a very like. It's to the point.

This would show that this relationship is changing. I'm not just your little boy anymore to where you're going to coddle me and you're going to run my back and run my head. No, this relationship is changing. Jesus signals this. This change in relationship, that he is no longer Mary's son, but he is on a mission for his Father.

He goes on in that verse and he says the hour. What is he speaking of in the hour? Well, we see that that is mentioned four times in the book of John. Mine hour is not yet come. Mine hour is not yet come.

Mine hour is not yet come. He says that all the way up until an important day. The night of the cross. We see that Jesus doesn't say mine hour had not yet come, but he says, the night of the cross, the hour is come. You can find that in John, chapter 12 and verse number 23.

The hour is come. Is come. Jesus is now telling Mary that I am not on your timetable, but I am on my father's timetable. I must be about my Father's business. My Father is the one who has put me on mission.

I am on mission. I have a plan, and my goal, my whole being, my mission is to obey my Father. So we see the mishap. But we see in verses 6 through 10, this is the meat of it today. Stay with me.

Verses 6 through 10. We see the miracle. We see the miracle. Verse number five leads us into that before the transformation happens, we see three things are going to happen. And these three things, I believe, are for us today.

This is the highlight. This is the application. This is what we take for ourselves today. This is how we exposit the text. We see in verse number five, his mother saith unto the servant or the servants, whatsoever he saith to you, what is the last two words?

Do it. What great advice. Do it. I mean, I think that's relevant to even for us today, right? Do it.

If Jesus says to do it, maybe some of us, we should just stop doing it our way and just like Mary says, just do it his way. Maybe for some of us, the meat of the message today is that we have been sitting around way too long. We have been playing church way too long. We've been. We have been playing this religious scheme way too long.

And maybe today in our heart of hearts, what God, what the Holy Spirit is speaking to us about is just obeying what God has already told you. Just obey him. Just do it. Obey the Word, obey the voice, be faithful, serve, forgive, do what the Bible says. Who's with me this morning and saying that if the Bible says it, we should do it.

Anybody with me this morning? And so when we look at this, Mary says, whatsoever he saith, doesn't matter what he says, but just do it. Do it in your life. Whatever he says, do it. It's not gonna make sense.

Maybe right now where I am in my life, but just trust Jesus and it's going to work out. This should remind all of us that with God all things are possible. We find that in John chapter one. He is who you need him to be. Remember John chapter one early on, he is the word of God.

He is the Creator. Now we see him as the recreator turning water into wine. He's the only one that can create something to make something out of nothing. We see that he is more than that. He's the light of God.

That in a dark world, Jesus is the answer. We see that he's the explanation of God. We see that you go on. And that he is the Lamb of God. You remember not only the Lamb of God, but the Son of God.

Do you remember what, what John the baptizer says about Jesus In John chapter one and verse number 35, he says, Behold, behold the Lamb of God. And so we see this now playing out in John chapter two. We Were being set up for this, that this is who Jesus is. Understand? This is who he is.

This is the guy that we're talking about. So when he says to do something, do it. So Jesus is about to transform the water into wine. But before the transformation happens, we see that there are three characteristics and these are what's for us. We see there's three characteristics.

I'm gonna go ahead and give you the three words. We see trust, we see a task, and we see a transfer. All right, can we say that as a church together? Let me see how good you're paying attention. Trust.

You guys cheated. It's on the screen. Get out of here. We see before the transformation happens, there's three elements within this story that we can all buy into, that we can all appreciate. The first one is this word trust.

Before any situation is ever gonna change in your life or my life, there has to be an element of trust. There has to be an element of faith. I don't know what hill you're up against today. I don't know where you are in your life. But can I tell you, if you want change, if you want a miracle to happen in your life, you are gonna have to put all of your faith in and all of your trust into a God who is a miracle working God.

There is an element of trust in this miracle. And so as we look at it, remember what is going on? They are out of line. What a failure. What a embarrassment to this groom and to his family.

Jesus says, you're gonna have to trust me. Jesus didn't lay out the whole plan for him. He didn't give him a 15 bullet point outline that, that this is what you're gonna do, this is how you're gonna do it. He didn't show em all that. And can I remind you today, he's not gonna lay out the plan in your life.

A lot of times there's gonna be a lot of question marks. There's gonna be a lot of times there's gonna be a lot of season in our life where we're just stepping back and we're saying, God, what are you trying to do? What are you trying to show me? Why in the world that family serving God? Why in the world does bad things happen to good people?

God, why am I struggling in this situation? Why do I have this addiction? Why, why do I feel this pain? Why do I have to go through this? I don't deserve this.

I'm trying to serve you, I'm trying to be faithful. But can I tell You. A lot of times God isn't gonna lay out the plan that he is just expecting you to put your faith and trust in him, knowing that he is the answer, that he is the way. And so we see that Jesus says, trust me. Do you understand?

God wants to do something. In all of our lives, there is a purpose, there is a plan, there is power that God wants to transfer over into our lives. But before he can use that, we have to surrender our life and surrender our trust to Him. It starts with trusting God. How is your faith today?

How is your trust today? So we look at this, there's trust. But we see the next thing in verse number six, we see the task. That it says, there are six pots, six stone pots. I.

All right, we're not talking about, like, little jugs. We're not talking about these little things. We're talking about six stone pots. And if you do the math on this, each pot would hold up to 30 gallons. Church, I need your help this morning, okay?

This is really spiritual. Very deep, theologically. Okay, let me. Let's do some spiritual math this morning, okay? What if each pot.

If there were six pots. You with me? And each of them held 30 gallons. Six times 30. How much is that, Church?

How many gallons? Some of you even got it wrong. I'm just joking. 180 gallons, guys. That's a lot.

I believe a gallon. I don't know exactly how much a gallon weighs. Maybe three or four or five pounds. I don't know. But, man, that's a lot of weight.

That's a lot of water. You see, you washed in this. The stone pots in this. This was the symbolism. We see that there are six pots, okay?

The imperfectness of man. We see that that is the problem. And Jesus is going to fix this problem. But we see this is incomplete. These pots were for spiritual ritual, spiritual purification.

That you would wash your hands in these pots as you would come in. In order to cleanse yourself, you would need to wash. You would get the running water from these pots, and you would wash your arms. You would. You will wash your hands. And some people would even wash their face or their feet.

There was no showers back then. So on a dusty trail going nine miles, of course, we would want to wash up before we started eating our food. So this would have to happen before you touch the bread. You better wash your hands. Don't you think that's a good rule for us today?

Amen. All right, you better wash your hands. You go to the bathroom, wash your hands. Come on. Sir.

All right, so we see this. At least one person thought it was funny. All right? But we see this in the text. Six pots, 180 gallons of water.

But we see these pots. According to verse number seven, Jesus says, fill the water pots. These are big pots, and he wants them all the way full, not halfway full. But the Bible says, fill them up to the brim. Fill them up to the very top.

And so when we look at this, the text, I believe, is jumping out to each and every one of us. In order for God to do something miraculous. It is going to take trust. But most of the time, he's going to involve a task. He's going to use.

People understand that with me that in order for these water pots to be filled, okay, they couldn't just yell at the next person down the way, hey, Tyler, we need to fill these water pots. Go outside and get the water hose and run them in here, okay? Go get the water hose. Come on. No, I'm just joking.

Okay? But, hey, we can't do that. That's not how the pots are going to get filled. How are the pots going to get filled? He looks at the servants.

Remember, Mary said, do whatever he says to do. Jesus says, go get the water. They go get the water, and they start filling these pots. I don't know how far away the well was, but can I tell you there was a strenuous task involved? They're carrying this water.

They're filling this up. I have no clue how many gallons that they brought. But even if the well was close, this is gonna be a sacrificial, a strenuous, A workout. Okay? It is gonna be a hard thing to do.

There's a task involved. Can I tell you that in our life that when we trust God, that there is a task involved in our life, that God wants to use each and every one of us as a instrument of grace. God wants to use you today. And I can prove that from the Bible. You look all the way through the Bible.

Didn't he use Moses to lead his children out of Egypt, out of captivity? What do you use? Remember the staff that Moses had? You remember God used something that Moses already had? That Red Sea, right?

Right. Moses, he hit that staff. The Red Sea parts. God used Moses in such a great way. But there was a task at hand.

Just use what God has already given you. You remember David in the Bible? You remember that? Didn't we sing about him earlier? He brought a rock to a sword fight.

Isn't that crazy? David, why in the World, you're marching out there and you expect to beat Goliath with just a slingshot? Are you crazy? You don't even have a sword. You.

You don't even have an armor. But David said, hey, if God before me, who can be against me? That if God is on my side, I see the task at hand. And they may laugh at me with my little slingshot, they may laugh at me with just these couple of stones. But listen, God is on my side.

And there is a giant to be slain because God's got my back. And so in your life, you say, I don't have very much. God doesn't need very much. God is a wonder working God. You may look at it and you're looking at yourself like, I just got a slingshot.

I just got a couple rides. How can God ever do anything? Listen, little as much when God is in it. Little as much, whatever you have, you give it to him. And I promise you through that task, through that obedience, through that trust and faith, that God is a miracle working God.

What is it in our life that we need to hand over to God today? What is it in my life that I have been hanging on to and I've used that as security? And I've been trusting in a career, I've been trusting in a relationship, I've been trusting. And you fill in the blank this morning. What is it today that we need to give to God?

That, hey, it's just a small. But can I tell you today, there are people in the auditorium today that God wants to use you. You are not here just by happenstance today, but God has gifted you in such a way that in order for this church to go forward, in order for this kingdom to be reached, in order for God to save another soul, we. We need your gift, we need your talents. We need what God has given you to carry, to bring the work of God forward by using what God has tasked you with.

Don't sit on it. Don't waste the opportunity this morning. So we see trust, we see task, but we see number next transfer. Look at verse number eight with me. The servants are gonna fill up the water.

They're gonna do it. They're gonna listen. And I promise you, as they're bringing those water things, they. They're probably not saying very, very good words, encouraging words about Jesus, like, who is this guy? What does he think he's doing?

These pots were already full. We don't need any more water, right? Can you hear them babbling on about they know what's Best how they would fill it, right? But they listen to Jesus. And can I just tell you, that's some great advice for us today.

You may think you know what's best for your life, but in order for us to see what God created us for you, we're going to have to give our lives to Jesus. We're gonna have to give it over to him. So I don't know what you're holding on today, but I believe that we can make application for that. Jesus says, once they are full, verse number seven. Jesus saith unto them, fill the water pots with water.

And they filled them up to halfway full the brim, right? Some of you are paying attention. Verse number eight. And he saith unto them, draw out now and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bear it.

These servants took this water and Jesus said, take a cup out and you're going to go and give it to the governor. This is the head servant. This is the emcee of the wedding. He's the wedding planner. Don't get me started on wedding planners right now, all right?

I've done enough weddings over the last couple years. That man, I'm not going to compare them to anybody in the Bible, okay? But we see that through this, that this servant, all right, they're probably looking at each other like, I ain't doing it. You do it. I ain't doing it.

How you do it, right? They're probably arguing over who's going to take the cup to this wedding coordinator. And they know it says in the next verse unto the governor of the feast. And they bear go to the next one. Verse number nine.

When the ruler of the feast had taste of the water, okay? So he's handing them the cup of the water, understand that? And they knew it was water because they went and got it. And so now he's handing this cup. And I believe that through their faith and through their trust, that is when the miracle I actually happen.

Jesus didn't have time for a lecture that day to give you a 15 point outline. He says, just trust me, there's a task at hand. And when we fulfill that task, that is when the miracle, the transfer will happen in our life. Let me ask you this morning, have you been faithful? What has God asked you to do?

Would you be the one to actually go and give this person? Can I just tell you, that took a lot of courage because that headmaster, that governor could have kick them out of the wedding and say, you ain't ever going to show up. You're the One that failed. All right. And so we see that Jesus, through this servant, bringing this cup to this head governor.

We see they took the water, they served it to the guy who was in charge, expecting wine. And look at verse number nine. When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water and was made wine and knew not whence it was, but the servants. Here we go. Which drew the water, knew the governor of the feast called the bridegroom.

So draw out now bear the governor of the feast. And so we see that in this there was a risk involved. It took faith to fill the jars. It took guts to serve the water to the emcee. But when the ruler tested it, tasted it, it wasn't just wine.

He said it was good wine. It was the best wine that he had ever tasted in all of his life. Can I tell you, when God does something, when Jesus does something, it's never halfway. It is all the way. It's in overabundance.

And as we look at our life, that's we sing about then, overabundance of goodness and joy and faithfulness and goodness all in our lives. That is our testimony this morning. God doesn't just administer a little bit of grace in your life or whatever you're going through, maybe a little peace in your life, or maybe just a little bit of love. But can I tell you, when it comes from Jesus, it is all in and it is more than enough. We see that if you do the math on this.

180 gallons. Bear with me. 180 gallons. Do you know how many cups that that would make? I ran the math.

4,600 cups. It says in the history of weddings for a Jewish family that nobody would ever even be able to drink half of that. You can't tell me that I don't serve a God of abundance this morning. You can't tell me that I don't serve a miracle working God. That is what Jesus did.

He blew it out of the water. It's an amazing, amazing testimony of who our God is. Can I tell you if you need a miracle today, you serve a miracle working God. If you need a little bit of grace, if you need a little bit of love, if there is something in your life that you're missing today. Have you tried Jesus today?

He's a miracle working God with miracle working power. What does this teach us? It teaches us in our life that Jesus can transform any situation. Jesus has the desire to use faithful people to accomplish his work. If you need a miracle this morning, obey God, trust him.

He's giving you a task at hand. Transfer the way that you are living your life. Give it to God this morning. Transfer it from I can't do it on my own to I'm just going to give it to God today, whatever the situation is. Transfer from your strength and give it to him and take him up on his strength today.

Verse number 10, he saith unto him, every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine. All right, this is what the world does, right? The world promises you a lot. Hey, just do this. Get a little bit more money, get you some fame, get you some notoriety, get the accolades for yourself.

The world promises you a ton and then leaves you at the end of it with nothing. It leaves you with emptiness. There's nothing fulfilling. It doesn't matter how much money in the bank. I remember a quote from Tom Brady.

He had just won his, I think fourth or fifth super bowl. And it said, how do you feel at this point? He says, I just feel like there's just something else left in my life. There's something else. I mean, this guy had won it all.

He had fame, he had notoriety. The best quarterback in all of the NFL. He had won the championship so many times, it never happens. Most people don't even get one in. And he had gotten multiple, multiple, multiple.

But he says, there's something missing in my life. Can I tell you, if you feel that way this morning, if there is a void in your heart, if there is something missing in your life, try Jesus. Give your life to Jesus. And when men have well drunk, then that which is worse. But thou has kept the good wine until now.

That's just like Jesus. This beginning of miracles. This is the beginning. The first miracle did Jesus in Cana, Galilee. And watch this.

This is why. This is the crux of it all. It wasn't just to show off his talents, but it was so that his glory would be manifested. And he says after that people left believing. Trust me, when God does something God sized in your life and you will leave believing, your faith will be strengthened.

You remember what the Bible says, that faith cometh by hearing, in hearing, by the word of God. When you trust Jesus at His word, I promise you this morning, he will never let you down. And so his glory was manifested and the disciples, it says, believed on him. So let me bring it to where we live today. Some believers in the room have come in with something empty today.

In a room filled with people today, surely you've came with some pain. Surely you've came with some struggles. Maybe Your joy is low. Maybe your strength is low today. Maybe your peace is low.

Can I ask you, can I encourage you? Bring it to Jesus. He steps in when we need him most. When we are weak, he is strong. Jesus can step into your life.

So today I'm gonna ask you to check your jars. Check your jars. Are you relying on ritual? Just sometimes we settle for almost like hand washing and just dish soap that would just clean us on the outside. When Jesus is saying, hey, I came to destroy all of that that I am gonna make water into wine.

I'm gonna give you the good wine today. Stop just hoping in, just a ritual cleansing church membership, just tradition of man. But give your life. I want a relationship with you today. So let me ask you, do you know Jesus as your personal savior?

Check your jars. Have you came just for a ritual? Or have you came so Jesus can give you the transformation? You are a new creation in Christ Jesus. We see the next thing that we can take away is fill it to the brim.

Janie, I'm done this morning. Whatever God has called you to do, your marriage, your job, your ministry, don't do it halfway. Don't do it halfway. We only get one shot at this thing called life. Don't waste it.

The psalmist says, count your days. Number your days. So let me ask you, what is your plan to serve God this week? Do you have a plan to read your Bible this week? Some of us say, man, I really want to grow.

Why aren't you faithful to church? I really would like to know more. Well, read your Bible during the week. You gotta get it for yourself. I want to have a prayer life.

Sometimes the only time we pray is when we play the lottery. And when we play the lottery and we eat food. Okay, sometimes that's the only time we pray during the week. God, give me them right numbers. Come on.

I'm amongst just church people. Okay. You guys play the lottery, you better not play the lottery. If you do, if you win, hey, the devil's had the money too long. Give it to the church.

Amen. We need a building out here.

I want a prayer life. Well, where's your prayer list? Can I just tell you? You don't have to look far in a room this size to see needs. All over the auditorium, the person sitting beside you, they may have greeted you with a smile on their face.

They may have acted like everything is alright, but. But deep down, they are struggling. Deep down, there are things in our life that are raw and they're very, very real. And they are needing an answer today. They came today because it could have been the last time.

It could be that they have no hope. So they came today searching for something. Maybe you are the answer that God has brought somebody today. Will you encourage them or is the conversation all about you? What's going on in your life?

I want a prayer life with. Maybe you should meet some people. There's needs all over the room today. So when we look at that, we see that Jesus, if you need a miracle, he's your guy. He's the one that can do it.

So will you trust him today? Will you obey the task that he's given you at hand? And will you give him your life and so he can transfer, not just change a little, but when Jesus comes in, it is total transformation that only he can bring. With our heads bowed and our eyes closed, let's stand all over the room today. I don't know what Jesus is talking to you about, dealing with your heart about, but we're gonna have a time of invitation.

The invitation is simply this. It's a time where we reflect on God's word today. So surely, maybe God is speaking to you about something that was mentioned in the sermon today. Maybe it was completely different than what the sermon was even about. But may we do business with God today?

Don't leave with just information. Leave with with transformation that only God can do in your life. They're going to sing let's do business with God all over the room today when Jesus stepped in. What's Jesus calling you to do today? Have you trusted Him?

Have you given your life to Him? Maybe simply, we just need to come and thank him for what he's done in our life. His provision, his grace, his mercy.
