The Cross Settles Every Question ~ John 8:21-30
What happens when life's biggest questions go unanswered? In John chapter 8, verses 21 through 30, we find ourselves in the middle of a charged conversation between Jesus and a crowd that is skeptical, confused, and searching. Three questions surface in the text: Where is Jesus going? What must we believe? And who exactly is he? These are not casual questions. They are the kind that carry eternal weight. Jesus does not sidestep them. Instead, he points everyone to a single event that would settle every doubt and silence every argument. The cross is not just a historical moment. It is the answer. The gospel, defined simply as the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, is the central truth that holds all of Christianity together. We are reminded that sin carries a real penalty, that none of us are exempt from it, and that no amount of effort or religious activity can bridge the gap between sinful humanity and a holy God. But the stunning truth of the gospel is that God did not shout his love from a distance. He came to us. He became flesh. He lived among us and then willingly went to the cross to pay a debt we could never pay ourselves. The cross settles it. And that is very good news.
